ABOUT STREETCAR TO ALASKA
Heading 2
Our story:
I (Leo) grew up in New Orleans, and I always wondered why people came to our city and raved about the food, or why they thought riding on a streetcar was something more than just public transportation. When we went out to eat it was usually for pizza, Chinese food, Popeyes fried chicken, etc. What tourists thought was special was just everyday food for us. At home we had Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red beans and rice, Etouffee, etc. We would ride our bikes up to one of the local Po-boy shops for a great sandwich. Then I joined the military and went all over the world. That's when I learned that you can't get good "home" style food anywhere. That led me on a journey to recreate my childhood favorites from recipes my family could tell me about that were never written down. I have spent years working on meals that I personally enjoy. For example, every Monday growing up, everyone ate red beans and rice, it was just a given. Every Friday we had fried fish (usually catfish), with hush puppies and cornbread. Throw in a Po-boy and some shrimp creole and there you go. We all talked every day about food. What are y'all eating this weekend, what'd y'all have for supper last night? On and on. When I got married, to my amazing wife Jami, I like to say she couldn't boil water, so I taught her everything I knew, and she had recipes from her mother that went back generations, so she started perfecting everything, so much so, that for more than a decade people would ask us, "when are you going to open a restaurant"? It's time! We fell in love with Alaska and when I retired from the military we moved back here. We couldn't find anything even close to the food we miss anywhere in Alaska, so we spent nearly every waking minute for more than a year building our food truck. Our only goal is to share our love for cooking, our love for great food and our love for helping my fellow Veterans. We welcome you!
